# NimbusImage

> NimbusImage is an open-source, cloud-based microscopy image analysis platform for life scientists. Built by the Raj Lab at the University of Pennsylvania in collaboration with Kitware, it runs entirely in the browser with no installation required. Published in Nature Methods.

NimbusImage is developed by CytoPixel Software (solo founder Arjun Raj). It is licensed under Apache 2.0 and can be self-hosted. The hosted version is available at https://app.nimbusimage.com.

Key capabilities:
- **Cell segmentation** using Cellpose, SAM (Segment Anything), and Piscis
- **Spot detection** for RNA FISH, protein aggregates, and spatial analysis
- **Object tracking** across time-lapse images with lineage tracing
- **Quantitative measurement** of morphology, fluorescence intensity, and spatial relationships
- **3D and multichannel** image processing with colocalization analysis
- **Batch analysis** with automated workflows and custom ML model integration
- **Large image support** — handles files that won't fit in local memory via Girder's large_image plugin

NimbusImage is interactive, not just a pipeline. Users can see what algorithms are doing in real-time, click to correct segmentation errors, and inject domain expertise into results.
